HalfWatchTuesday ‘New Watch Alert’

Now as many of you may have seen on my last post, that I was very humbled (albeit personally feeling undeserving of) to receive a new C65 Trident from Christopher Ward as part their NHS hero giveaway (again, to everyone who thought of me, who took the time to even consider someone like me, the messages of well-wishing was amongst the most humbled I’ve ever felt).

(Editors Note Though falling off his own pushbike was a close second!)

Now, I’ve not had a new watch for over 18 months, with my Speedy being my last such purchase, so I guess I kind of forgot what it meant to have that anticipation at something new coming through the door. Was exciting even for the unboxing of it, which I normally don’t take too much notice of.

The watch itself, I am very very pleased with. It’s much more of a matte blue dial than I realised, far different from the sunburst of the Samurai. The dimensions are nice at 41mm, a little bigger than the original C60 granted but is a bit thinner, so sits nicer on my wrist. 22mm lug size so I’ve plenty of strap options that I’ve bought from the Samurai, although the nubuck strap it came with is rather nice. In fact, I remember being a touch critical as to the somewhat ‘infamous’ logo change when it first came out. Now even though I do still prefer the old logo, the new logo font and position at 9oclock, does not overly bother me too much at this stage. All in all, I am very happy with my new acquisition and no doubt you’ll see more of it on my feed in the future.

So, my question (and there’s always a question) is do you, the watchfam, still feel that nervous excitement, that pensive anticipation of a new acquisition coming through the door after a period of such plateau? As always, answers on a postcard…..

@andrewthomashill kicks us off this week with a lovely black and white SKX shot. The contrast just makes this shot ‘pop’, amazing work buddy!

We know it’s only Tuesday but we’re still glad you joined us, especially when you bring said Globemaster to the show!

I have to say that on my days off, I’ve loved nothing more than getting in about DIY projects in the garden; painting fences, reseeding lawn etc. Hence, why @ray_deeb post of his Mudmaster, in amongst the blades of grass, speaks to me on higher levels. Wicked shot!

Katlen. The name that everybody knows and loves. We’ve sung her praises and we’ve shouted from the rooftops about how said imagination knows no bounds. Not only does the shot of her Speedmaster just scream amazing but also comes with an important message about how to take it easy during these times.

@kingflumnever ceases to entertain and thus never disappoints. His shot this week, of his TinTin Speedy apparently taking up smoking is just next level tomfoolery!

We’ve said it before, submerged submissions are a category we love to see here at HalfWatchTuesday. @pipshorology knocks it out the park this week with a lovely SKX submerged number!

Finally, another important message, this time from @timepeacelove reminding everyone to ensure that they are eating all their greens, especially those covering his lovely Panerai.

So, obviously I had written this article ready to go out last week, before which I’m sure you have all seen, regarding the sudden passing of Omair’s father. Hence why this was delayed. As fun and as interesting as this hobby is, it is no substitute and can never take the place for our families. I never had the pleasure of meeting Omair’s father and writing this, I feel a certain pang of regret that I hadn’t had that chance. As a father myself, I have always believed with all my heart in instilling a certain sense of pride, character and honour within my two sons as I would hope that they would instil onto others. I love my sons with all that I am and looking at the way Omair is with his son; the man that he is, the man that I have come to know and respect, I just know he helped raise and shape Omair to be one heck of a father, a husband and above all, a man. So, from one man to another man who never had the absolute privilege to meet: I thank you for that. إِنَّا لِلَّٰهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ‎, (‘verily we belong to God and verily to Him do we return’)

Until next week, stay safe everyone and keep those you love close.

Yours in horology

Nic
