It’s only 2 weeks until this years (yes, it’s 2019 folks remember it) SIHH show in Geneva.
This is the last year of the current format and with Richard Mille and Audemars Piguet both leaving the event after this one there has never been a better time to get off you January behind and make the one day trip to Switzerland!
We visited the show last year when they started offering a public entry day to entice more people into the watch hobby and what an amazing time we had.
Getting to see so many of the top brands in one area was great, getting to see the actual pieces in person and being able to handle them was amazing and best of all was being able to talk with master watchmakers from the likes of Roger Dubois, JLC and other distinguished horology houses.
So whats involved in this trip and how much will is cost? Not much and a lot less than you think.
Charge your phone, bring a backpack for the freebies and set your alarm for an early rise – getting yourself to Edinburgh airport for a 6.30am flight out to Geneva.
Once arrived and through security we’re taking a 5 minute train ride from the airport into the heart of Geneva to check out watch boutiques and makers for a few hours before the show opens then back to the airport where the Pal Expo centre is joined to.
Inside the show go wild! Methodically start at the entrance and work your way down one side of the looping show area dropping into each of the brands to see what they are doing and what is coming to wrists near you in 2019. Or just dart around as you please hunting out the makes you love and spending time that way.
Last year when the show opened to the public we were all offered a ton of free watch magazines from around the world. QP, WatchTime and Revolution plus a ton of others so your backpack will fill up quite quickly. Then inside brands have a ton of watch swag on offer so expect to head home with a few free souvenirs too.
The flight back to Edinburgh is at 8pm so we will be walking the short 300 metre trek from the Expo to the terminal before hand and will be back in Edinburgh for 9.30pm rounding off a phenomenal day trip.
The total costs for this outing? £120
£65 for the return flights from Edinburgh and £55 for the show entry. If you are parking at the airport then that will only be another £10 and the free shuttle bus will pick you up and drop you off at the front entrance to the terminal so you have no walking to do whatsoever.
So what are you waiting for?

Got into the horological hobby only a few short years ago; but got, as us Scots like to say, “baw deep” pretty quickly. Thanks to buying a lemon of a Rolex he spent hours researching why his watch wasn’t working and along the way gained an interest in what makes them tick. He now runs the Scottish Watches website and keeps cohort Rick in check on the twice weekly Scottish Watches podcast.
