New Watch Release: Linde Werdelin’s 3-Timer looks to the North Sea

Any of our avid readers here at Scottish Watches who have seen some of my previous writing will know that I am a big fan of the work of Danish indie brand, Linde Werdelin. Famous for their strong brand DNA and instantly-recognisable design language, they very quickly won me over when I was fortunate enough to spend a couple of weeks with the 3-Timer Rock. I loved the stoney, grey design language. I usually prefer this monochromatic styling on watches, but then Linde Werdelin released this new colour iteration of the 3-Timer…Wow.

Meet the 3-Timer Nord, the second launch from the brand in 2020 to date (take a look at the first, here). Featuring a blue/black fume dial, the inspiration came from the changing colours of the sea on the north coast of Denmark on late summer evenings, according to Jorn Werdelin. When the sun finally sets, the water colour varies between black and blue with silvery overtones and thus the concept was born.

Also present here is a wonderful sandblasted case. Both the fume dial and sandblasted finish are firsts for the Biformeter range from Linde Werdelin. I previously spoke about how much I loved the mixture of brushing and polished accents on the 3-Timer Rock, but this matte effect of the sandblasting really works. I really like it!

The 3-Timer Nord comes on a blue rubber strap for the very reasonable price of £4,600 excluding VAT. I can attest to the comfort of Linde Werdelin’s rubber straps, and this watch looks well made for the rubber. I love their proprietary bracelet and I know if this watch was in my collection, it’d spend a lot of time on the bracelet (if you’re a LW owner and DON’T have the bracelet, you need to remedy that right away), but the rubber would probably be the de facto strap choice for summer. It just looks really cool, for lack of a better adjective!

Of course, due to the strap system featured in all Linde Werdelin watches, any of the straps from their website will fit the new 3-Timer Nord. Fancy a yellow rubber strap or a leather strap instead? Fear not, you can purchase any of their other straps from the website safe in the knowledge they will be compatible.

As the name suggests, the 3-TImer Nord can track 3 time zones thanks to the built-in GMT hand and the 24-hour bezel. The movement powering this handsome watch is the sturdy and reliable ETA 2893-2. It’s also worth mentioning, that the bezel action on the 3-Timer I reviewed earlier this year was one of the best I’ve had the pleasure of operating. I expect this to be no different.

Like most of Linde Werdelin’s offerings, the 3-Timer Nord is a very limited series of 55 pieces. It is available to order on lindewerdelin.com right now with delivery planned about 6-8 weeks later.
