Thanks to Fratello Watches for passing on this release to us – we can’t wait to read your initial hands-on at www.fratellowatches.com
If you are into watches and you don’t know the name George Bamford – please stop here and do some reading. Bamford is THE name in watch customization George and his Bamford Watch Department has worked with some of the greatest brands – in most of the cases you look at a Bamford customized watch and think: Yep, that’s exactly what this watch should have looked like from the start! It’s that obvious and hence good.
You can also listen to the SW Podcast with him and watch a video here on his previous Zenith release.
As for Casio’s G-Shock – well equally if the name Kikuo Ibe doesn’t ring a bell – do some reading behind the crazy success of the G-Shock watch range. Of which more than 100 Million pieces were sold so far and in 2020 alone 12 Million will be sold (estimated).
So what did these two wizards do? Bamford Watch department took one of the most iconic G-Shock models, the classic 5600 and Bamfordisized it, giving it their signature twist, while maintain the epic G-Shockness we all respect and love.
In detail it’s a G-Shock square model 5610 watch with a negative display with greenish characters on black (Multiband Radio control and the usual G-Shock features but no Bluetooth) with a Resin construction and added a special dial surround – let’s say a Bamford take on a digital dector dial to it as well as giving it the signature Aqua blue treatment on the underside of the strap.
Bamford claims this will be a “very” limited run of timepieces – available exclusively from Bamford London, G-Shock, Beaverbrooks & Dover Street Market. From the 17th September onwards.
Personal take: Love it – that blue is such a great colour in contrast with the black G-Shock resin. I am very tempted in getting this for myself, as I am quite fond of G-Shocks, square Origin pieces in particular. I do feel this would make a perfect 2 pair up for my collection with the new Rolex Oyster Perpetual 41mm in Turquoise – another one on my wishlist….
I only have one wish: Collaborate on a GMW-B5000 next, pretty please?
